About

Studio Fables is an independent and multidisciplinary design collective founded in 2014 near Paris by Majan Dutertre, Paul Schaedelin and Laurent Tacco.

We believe emotion gives ideas their strength and design its purpose. It emerges between the precision that reassures and the detail that unsettles, when the unexpected feels inevitable.

We build this balance with our clients through trust and dialogue, where creative direction and technical expertise inform each other, from strategy to production.

We craft visual identities, websites, printed objects and installations. Forms that carry a voice and give it resonance. For the stories they tell. For the echoes they leave.

Our team

We are three designers with complementary practices, brought together by a shared graphic design culture and a desire to create work we can stand behind and sign collectively.

  • Majan Dutertre

Art director and graphic designer. His ability to distil the essentials from complex subjects allows him to bring a clear idea into focus, then translate it into a compelling and often unexpected form.

  • Paul Schaedelin

Art director and graphic designer. Passionate about typography and beautiful books, he excels at demanding projects that call for sustained rigour, rhythm and close attention to every detail.

  • Laurent Tacco

Designer and developer. Since 2001, he has been designing and coding websites where art direction, usability and technology evolve together, with particular car for the user experience.

Our clients

We work with local businesses, cultural institutions and international brands. The subjects and scales vary. The care and standards remain the same.

Our services

Our services span several creative fields, allowing us to develop projects across different media that complement and build on one another.

  • Identity

We build visual identities that give a brand, an institution, an event or a campaign a voice, a presence and coherence.

Designed as systems, they bring together the visual elements, rules and tools needed to create a distinctive world, with the flexibility to adapt to different media, contexts and audiences while remaining instantly recognisable and consistent wherever and however people come into contact with it.

  • Web

We design and develop every website in the studio, bringing art direction, user needs and technical constraints into dialogue so that ideas stay intact from the first sketches to the last line of code.

This allows us to create fully bespoke experiences that are fluid and lightweight, simple to manage day to day and robust enough to grow and evolve as needs change over time.

  • Print

We design printed objects in which typography, images, rhythm and format all play a part in telling the story, whether through a poster, a programme, a book or a catalogue.

From the choice of paper to overseeing its production, we care as much about the way an object is read, handled and kept over time as we do about what it reveals to the eye.

  • Space

We bring graphic design into physical space through window displays, scenography and interactive installations, where still and moving images form compositions with the architecture and reveal themselves gradually.

We consider the audience from the first sketch, connecting content with gestures and movement to invite exploration, interaction and unexpected discoveries.

Frequently asked questions

Behind every project are choices, methods and practical questions we are often asked.

When should we get in touch?

When you are launching, repositioning, entering a new stage of growth, or when your image no longer reflects who you are. Also when you want to publish, exhibit, present your work or bring coherence back to communications that have become too scattered.

What kinds of organisations do you work with?

Size and sector matter less than the substance of the project, its ambition and the room it leaves for dialogue and creativity. We work with a wide range of organisations, wherever there is something meaningful to understand, stand for and give form to.

Do you work on one-off projects or longer collaborations?

Both. We build relationships based on trust, whether the work spans a few weeks or several years, depending on what is needed. Some clients have been entrusting us with their projects for over ten years. After delivery, we can evolve an identity, expand a website or develop new materials.

Can we work with you on a single service?

Yes. An identity, a website, a publication or an installation can each be a project in its own right. When several media are involved, bringing them together within the studio keeps the thinking consistent from concept to completion, while making the process smoother and reducing costs.

Do you develop websites in-house?

Absolutely. Development is an integral part of our practice. Design, interactions and technical constraints inform each other from the outset, with continuity from the mockup to the live website. We also maintain the sites we build to keep them running smoothly over time.

Can we manage our website without you?

Yes. We build tools that are easy to use and give you everything you need to manage them independently. The aim is to keep working together by choice, never out of dependence.

How does a project unfold?

It starts with conversation and research to understand the context and clarify the project’s goals. We then develop a deliberately small number of directions before refining, producing and implementing the chosen one.

Do we need a detailed brief?

Not necessarily. A brief helps set the context, but it does not have to hold the answer. Understanding what really needs to change is part of the work, and the initial request sometimes evolves through our first conversations.

What budget should we allow for?

It depends on the scope, the schedule and the disciplines involved. Discussing the budget early helps define a realistic scope and focus resources where they will make the most difference.

Can we meet you?

Of course. We can welcome you to the studio in Montreuil, come to you depending on the project, or arrange a video call. The first meeting comes with no commitment. It is simply a chance to get to know each other and talk about the project.

What role does artificial intelligence play in your work?

We use it when it helps us research, organise, write or develop more effectively. It remains a tool within the process, never a substitute for our judgement, our creative choices or the responsibility we take for the result.

Do you offer internships or apprenticeships?

Not at the moment. But we are always happy to talk with young designers, hear about their backgrounds and see what they are working on.
